Big Agnes Tiger Wall UL 1
THREE SEASON, FREE STANDING, ULTRALIGHT TENT
The Tiger Wall UL tents are quickly becoming our most popular series of technical backcountry shelters. The oversized single door makes tent life a little easier, and the weight savings is especially nice when out for multi-day trip and gram counting. Combining simple, yet strong single pole architecture with DAC Featherlite materials, interior storage pockets, and comforts around every corner, these tents are poised to be a backcountry favorite.
The Tiger wall UL 1 is a nice, big, doubled walled solo tent. Built much like the slightly heavier Big agnes copper spur HV ul 1, with main difference being that the Tiger wall is about 150 grams lighter. This is accomplished by the Tiger wall not being a proper free-standing tent like the Copper spur is. The Tiger wall needs atleast 3 tent pegs to hold the inner and outer tent in place. Not exactly a headache, but worth mentioning if you are looking for a completely freestanding tent.
With that said, the Big agnes tiger wall is exteremly easy and fast to setup, and very comfortbale to live in. I am 190cm tall and generally as big as a gorilla, and I find the tent comfortable. I can easily situp and do easy stretching, change clothes and so on in the tent without squishing the innertent. The big agnes tents are generally the most comfortable tents on the market, the Tiger wall is no exception.
Where the Tiger wall UL 1 saves weight is in tent materials, using 15d outer and inner is about as light nylon materials that I would recommend building a tent with. Light enough to carry around in your backpack and sturdy enough to withstand most conditions that mountains will through at it. However, it’s not going to hold a lifetime like a Hilleberg will do. They are simply not built for that, instead they are built to be used on something like the PCT in the USA – a 3000 mile hike over a 6 month period and then replaced. But, considering most people dont go for 6-month hikes, I imagine the Tiger wall will last a few years.
- LIGHT
- Spacious
- Easy to setup
- Robust enough
- Not a huge fan of the Vestibule
- Not freestanding
- Will it hold for years?
