Hennessy hammock Explorer Deluxe Zip
Hennessy hammock was one of my first hammocks that I bought in the early 2000’s. I thought they looked cool, so I bought one. Had never slept in a hammock and other than hammocks that I had in my backyard as a kid, never even knew that hiking hammocks existed. I left my first version back in the USA when I moved to Sweden. When I moved to Sweden I had to import a Hennessy when I got back into hiking. It was not a cheap experience. Since then I have moved on to use and abuse dozens of hammocks, more or less every hammock built and sold, I have tested. Yet, I still come back to my Hennessy for two simple reasons:
1. It’s extremely easy to setup. Everything is built into one package, unlike many other hammocks that require ropes for tarps, tent pegs and a bunch of other stuff – the Hennessy is one simple package. Two ropes, tree huggers and your done.
2. I find the Asym lay of the Hennessys to be very comfortable. Granted, not quite as comfortable as the Warbonnet Ridgefunner or Blackbird – the Hennessy is easier to setup.
So while the Hennsessy is not as cool as many other brands, they do come in at a great price and as a complete package. Meaning you get everything you need in one package. No need to buy anything else other than a sleeping mat and or underquilt and overquilt. You done. Might I recommened a Sierra designs Nitro quilt or Enlightened equipment Revelation quilt as top quilt. Both are excellent.
Do I have any complaints about the Hennessy. To be honest, not really. They are good quality and come in at a good price. The only thing I complain about is that the UL versions could be lighter and more easily available, and I don’t like the fact that they are built in China. In the end however, I can gladly recommened the Hennessy hammocks to anyone looking for a good first and only hammock. While I would prefer people would buy more locally produced products like Warbonnet (Built in USA) or Dutchware (USA) – Hennessy is not a bad investment.
- Very easy to pitch
- Good price
- Good quality
- Decent weight
- Very comfortable
- All in one package
- Could be lighter
- We need to move away from Chinese produced products
Review by Kenneth Shaw
The Explorer Deluxe ZIP is a foot longer than the Expedition ZIP and was designed for anyone up to 300 lbs. / 136 kg and 7′ / 213 cm tall. It has our patented asymmetrical shape and structural ridge line to ensure exceptional comfort and a perfect set up every time.
It also has the same high performance materials, proportions and protection as the smaller Expedition ZIP. If you are really close to 6 feet / 183 cm tall and you want the luxury of extra space, this would be a good choice.
Tom knew that the people of Central America sleep diagonally in their hammocks. So, with that knowledge, he changed the shape of his hammock into his patented asymmetrical design which lets you lie level on the diagonal with excellent support under your lower back and knees.
Because tree spacing is always different, the curve of a hammock is always different. The patented structural ridge line ensures the same shape every time you set up your hammock. This is the first time in history that you have the exact same comfortable bed every night and a perfect setup every time
